How to Stay Focused: To-Do Lists

To-Do ListsIf you are anything like me, you have a million things to get done each day. It’s hard to keep track of and really easy to get overwhelmed by, so I rely heavily on to-do lists. To help me with those, I prefer to use a free online tool called Google Keep (also a free mobile app).

Not only do to-do lists help keep you organized, they also help ensure you don’t miss anything important that needs to be completed. And at the end of the day, it gives you a great way to check your work and see your accomplishments.

Another benefit to using a to-do list is that you *improve*¬†your memory. If you think about it, when¬†there’s a list, it is less likely that you will forget to accomplish something. It gives you permission to forget those 100 tasks to do today, and those 100 to do tomorrow, and you only need to remember to look at your to-do list instead. The average person’s short term memory can only hold 7 pieces of information for 30 seconds, so if you have more than that to remember you are setting yourself up for failure.

So give it a try, start your to-do lists today and end the day feeling more organized, more accomplished, and even more time!
